Senior Vice President of Human Resources
The Needs
- Our client's mission is to create a world class portfolio of mountain resorts located in Northern China. The company, with headquarters based in Bejing is currently redeveloping 5 existing resorts, elevating the level of these properties to rival top resorts in Europe and North America.
- The Senior VP of HR is responsible for the start-up, roll-out, and implementation of the Human Resource Department for the Development Company.
- In coordination with the Senior Executive Team, he/she must design and implement the recruitment/staffing procedures, compensation and benefits programs.
- Client was seeking candidates with 10+ years HR managment experience with a focus on strategic thinking, proven leadership capability, experience in creating and managing HR teams across multiple operations sites.
- Experience working in both a western managment -style environment as well as a within the Chinese hospitality insdustry is a plus.
- Proficiency in English and Mandarin required.
The Process
- Based on the comments of the Senior Managment Team, we developed a succinct position profile.
- Through direct recruiting techniques and networking with senior operations executives in the region, we built a list of 75-100 potential candidates including Director, Regional and VP level candidates based in Hong Kong and mainland China.
- During the initial two weeks, we culled down the list to 20 potential candidates that fit the job profile
- Conducted initial phone screens of the top 20 candidates to determine interest level, and further review of experience and qualifications
- Of the 20 candidates, we felt that 5 of the candidates fit the profile
- Our client conducted phone interview with the 5 candidates and elected to move forward with personal interview with the top 2 candidates.
- The two candidates travelled to Hong Kong to meet with the Senior Executive Team.
The Result
- The candidate that was selected was based in mainland China and was working for a leading global hospitality brand. He had ample HR experience working for a Chinese hospitality company as well as a western-based multi-national corporation.
